Javascript and Jquery are the most commonly used client-side scripting languages.

For example an image may change when you move your mouse over it or a message can appear when you click on something. Javascript is commonly used for validating information on a web form, opening pop-up windows or changing elements on a web page.

A client-side script is run after a page has been loaded and the action carried out is performed by your browser (your website viewing programme such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari). The browser must support the scripting language used in the website and the settings must allow for the scripts to be performed - you often see messages asking you to allow a script to run as some websites may contain virus scripts that can attack your computer.
