HTML WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT

HTML and XHTML are markup languages used to convey information to a web browser. In essence they are the same, but XHTML is stricter in its application.

A web page is made up of many parts called elements. A few examples of elements are headings, paragraphs, images, line breaks, forms and buttons.

Each element has attributes which determine how it looks such as colour, height, width, position and background colour.

When a browser loads a page it essentially reads through an HTML document and translates the code to display the elements as described in the document, in the right positions, in the right sizes and colours etc.

There can be many ways to get the same look on a web page, but some methods are preferred over others. Some browsers will make a correction if an obvious mistake is made, but it is best to write the HTML code according to the best-practise standards set by the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium).

Some browsers may display some elements and their attributes slightly differently so it's important to make sure that your website looks the same in all browsers. This way you ensure that all visitors to your website are seeing the site the way you intended.

The styles or attributes of the elements on your website can be set within the HTML document or in a separate file called a cascading style sheet (CSS).
